The Governor of Oyo State has signed an Executive Order restricting the operation of commercial motorcycles across the state between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, prohibits motorcycle operators from conducting business during the specified hours, except in circumstances that may be approved by relevant authorities.
According to the state government, the measure forms part of a broader strategy aimed at addressing growing security concerns and limiting the movement of criminal elements who often exploit motorcycles to carry out unlawful activities under the cover of darkness.
Government officials noted that intelligence and security reports have linked a number of criminal incidents, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security breaches, to the misuse of motorcycles during late-night hours.
The Executive Order is expected to be enforced by security agencies and relevant government task forces, with violators facing sanctions in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with authorities and comply with the directive, which the government insists is designed to enhance public safety and protect lives and property across the state.
While the decision may affect some commercial motorcycle operators who rely on nighttime transportation services, the government maintained that the security and well-being of citizens remain its top priority.
Stakeholders are expected to continue consultations on the implementation of the policy, even as security agencies intensify efforts to ensure compliance throughout the state.
The latest move underscores the administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and maintaining law and order as Oyo State continues to confront emerging security challenges.
