President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed as Director-General.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, as the ruling party begins preparations for the 2027 presidential campaign.
Under the new structure, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Vice Chairman. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will also serve as Vice Chairman.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who previously served as governor of Zamfara State, will coordinate the campaign as Director-General. His appointment comes as the APC seeks to consolidate its political structures and mobilise support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named Secretary of the campaign council, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman were appointed Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
The campaign council will also include a number of senior party leaders and political figures in strategic positions as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential contest.
Among those designated as Deputy Directors-General are Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, with responsibilities covering different regions and aspects of the campaign.
The council’s formation signals the APC’s transition from internal political preparations to a more structured mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development is expected to intensify political activities nationwide as the ruling party moves to strengthen its grassroots structures, coordinate campaign activities and build support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
