Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state with key interventions in healthcare, security and other areas, despite the political differences between the Federal Government and the Bauchi State Government.
The governor spoke in Bauchi while receiving a Federal Government delegation led by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate. The visit coincided with the commissioning of a radiodiagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).
Mohammed described the new health facility as a major development that would strengthen specialist healthcare delivery in the state and reduce the need for residents to travel outside Bauchi for advanced medical services. He noted that the project demonstrated the Federal Government’s willingness to support states irrespective of political affiliation.
The governor also praised Tinubu’s intervention in tackling insecurity in Bauchi, particularly the establishment of military battalions in Alkaleri and Tafawa Balewa. He recalled that when some communities were threatened by banditry, he sought the President’s assistance despite being an opposition governor, and said the Federal Government responded with a high-powered security operation.
According to Mohammed, the intervention helped restore peace to affected communities and allowed displaced residents to return home and resume their farming activities. He expressed appreciation to the President, saying Bauchi would not forget the support it received during the security crisis.
The governor also acknowledged the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly the increase in resources available to states. He said governments at the federal and subnational levels should cooperate whenever policies and interventions are aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
Mohammed stressed that issues such as healthcare and education should not be politicised, adding that political differences should not prevent governments from recognising initiatives that directly benefit the people.
He pledged that Bauchi State would continue to cooperate with the Federal Government and federal institutions operating in the state to improve infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the overall welfare of residents.
