The Oyo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, PhD, has used two separate engagements in Ibadan to outline his position on some of the major issues shaping discussions about the future of the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Alli spoke at the Oyo Rising Citizen Forum (ORCF) stakeholders’ meeting, convened by Comrade Alaba Adebisi with the theme “Dialogue on the Future of Oyo State,” as well as a strategic meeting organised by the Oyo State APC Progressives Movement. His engagements focused on local government administration, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, land acquisition and youth participation in governance.
On local government administration, Alli pledged to pursue what he described as functional local governments, while promising improvements in primary healthcare and education. He also outlined plans to support farmers and traders through grants and loans, revive state-owned assets and ensure what he described as fair compensation and humane resettlement for communities affected by development projects.
The APC candidate also introduced his “50-Below-50” plan, under which he proposes that 50 per cent of political appointments would be allocated to people below the age of 50. During the engagements, he further raised questions concerning the management and development of projects and assets including the Lekan Salami Stadium, Circular Road and Agbowo Shopping Complex, calling for greater accountability around them.
The meetings attracted stakeholders from different parts of Oyo State and provided a platform for discussions on governance, development and citizens’ expectations ahead of 2027. Alli’s campaign platform publicly lists local government autonomy, education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment among its policy priorities.
